Books and Documentaries You Should Check Out This Year To Celebrate Black History
As Black History Month is coming to an end, it’s important to remember that black history is every month. So let’s continue to celebrate black history and support all the black creators that are making a difference in the world. Usually, when February hits, I’m excited that it’s black history month. Still, I also feel like I celebrate black history every month by reading books, watching a show or documentary that’s either about black people or have a dominant black cast. Today I’m sharing with you books and documentaries I’ve been reading/watching or plan to read/watch this year since black history should be celebrated all year long.
Books
Here are some books I have read or bought and plan to read this year that are by black authors or about black history!
Why Are All The Black Kids Sitting Together In The Cafeteria? By Beverly Daniel Tatum
The transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi(to be released in September 2020)
Children’s Books
Since I have an almost 4-year-old, I have to include children's books as well! There’s way more than this, but I’m keeping to which books we’ve bought or checked out from the library.
Documentaries
She Did That
Your Attention, Please
13th
Hidden Colors
Maya Angelou and Still I Rise
What Happened, Miss Simone?
The Black Godfather
Floyd Norman: An Animated Life
Let’s celebrate black history every month!! I plan to make more lists on black-owned businesses and movies/tv-shows; I didn’t want this list to be super long! Please comment down below any books you’ve read or documentaries you’ve watched so others, including myself, can check them out! Thanks for reading!
