First Trimester Pregnancy With Second Baby - Symptoms, Tips, Comparisons to First Pregnancy
Baby, baby, baby - I got so much love in me! - That’s what I was singing last year at a TLC concert to celebrate my 28th birthday. Now, I literally have so much love in me. I’m pregnant with my 2nd child. I didn’t think I would be saying this so soon after getting married seven months ago. Cries. It was definitely not a part of our family plan, haha. I guess you can say the song speaks for how our relationship started and how we arrived at this point. We’re excited to bring this new bundle of joy into the world!
I’ve been out of the first trimester for 3 weeks now, so I wanted to share my symptoms and compare them to my first pregnancy which might help prepare first-time or second-time moms to know what symptoms might be in store for them when they become pregnant. Everyone’s body is different so you might experience fewer or more symptoms.

As you can see, my symptoms aren’t too different from both pregnancies. I was dealing with headaches until I started taking low-dose aspirin prescribed by my doctor since I could get Pre-eclampsia due to my blood pressure. I noticed that headaches and seeing floaters are symptoms of Pre-eclampsia, so if you have those symptoms, bring them up to your doctor. I wonder if I had it last time I was pregnant since I was always out of breath and throwing up a lot, I got headaches though they seem pretty typical compared to the ones I got this time around. Many women experience low libido while pregnant but don’t share they have that symptom; I promise nothing is wrong with you; having low libido is pretty common! I think a lot of us expect to have a high sex drive due to what we hear or see on tv. Again, everyone’s body is different so you won’t know how the changes your body will go through while being pregnant. If this becomes an issue be sure to communicate with your partner about it.
This pregnancy has been way better than my first since I haven’t been puking my life away. I threw up so much that I would get red dots on my face from how forceful I was vomiting. So I’m happy I’ve only thrown up three times with this little one. I had morning sickness though it would cease once I ate. One of the ways I knew I was pregnant was by how much I was eating and how I was constantly hungry. I kept telling my husband, Ike; I could be pregnant because I was always hungry. A lot of our money went to take-out, aha. When we were out in Charleston for Adora’s cheer competition and celebrating Adora’s birthday, you can notice how bloated and big I was. Again, I told Ike something was off.
We made it back home from Charleston, and I have yet to get a pregnancy test because, in my mind, It’s just happy weight. I’m also hoping maybe I’m not pregnant(but also excited at the possibility). My best friend, K’Mia, and her mom came over to tell Adora happy birthday. We got on the topic of me being possibly pregnant because of how big my stomach looked. I didn’t say a word because I didn’t know if I was, and her mom flat-out told me I was pregnant, haha. Later that week, I was in Dollar Tree getting something for Adora’s class, and my eyes darted to the pregnancy tests- a clear sign. I grabbed two tests. The first one was negative, “Whew okay, maybe I’m just being greedy and gaining weight.” A few days later I decided to take the second test which looked negative until after I washed my hands and looked at it again, it had a faint positive line. “Oh, Lord…IKEEEEEEE!!” I screamed. I showed Ike the pregnancy test, “It’s negative,” he said. I had to explain how depending on how early you test also depends on how faint or dark the line can be. Rushes to Target to get a digital pregnancy test. “This one is going to say pregnant or not pregnant so it won’t be wrong,” I tell Ike. I wait a few hours to take the test. PREGNANT.
That is a summary of how I found out I was pregnant. How I found out about being pregnant with Adora was pretty similar I randomly yelled out to my cousin that I could be pregnant while I was working, and I noticed children staring at me a lot and me actually smiling at them(I found children to be gross and annoying back then, haha). Next, I noticed a lot of baby commercials(also weird). Basically, what I’m saying is, trust your intuition! Anyway, I can sense that Ike is nervous about being a dad but I know he will be a good one. He’s a great stepdad to Adora, and he’s already watching parenting videos. We’ve already started doing some shopping for the baby as well. We plan to announce the gender soon so stay tuned! Let me know if you’d like to see baby hauls of things we have bought so far! Ta-ta for now and thanks for reading!
